50 Cent Teases New Series About Notorious NYC Crime Boss Clarence ‘The Preacher’ Heatley
December 05, 2000
50 Cent has shared an idea for a another new TV show, and this time he’s looking to tell the story of infamous New York City crime boss Clarence “The Preacher” Heatley.
On Monday (December 12), 50 took to Instagram to tease his next show focusing on the crime boss who ruled Harlem and parts of The Bronx, with his team, The Preacher Crew. In his first post, the G-Unit mogul shared an image and mugshot of Heatley and asked fans if they were prepared for what was to come.
“Is Harlem ready for the PREACHER story,” 50 captioned his post. “I got some Bomb shit, im coming wit it. The Black Hand GLG GreenLightGang.”
In his next post, the G-Unit boss revealed he might have his friend and actor Gbenga Akinnagbe — famous for his role as Chris Partlow on The Wire — play Heatley’s character on the show since they look similar to each other.
“I think my boy Gbenga Akinnagbe should play The Black Hand Of Death,” 50 added. “What you think? #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi.”
Besides 50’s posts, there’s no other word on the title of the show, who else will star in it or when its scheduled to drop. But as history has shown, 50 Cent knows how to produce a show.
Clarence “The Preacher” Heatley started running his criminal gang in 1983. The organization sold drugs, and participated in extortion, kidnapping and even murder in New York City, all to make a name for The Preacher Crew. Heatley’s reign of terror was so violent that he was also known as The Black Head of Death.
The reign would come to an end in the mid-’90s when Heatley was arrested and charged with three counts of murder and conspiracy to murder in the aid of racketeering. He would receive several other federal charges in the following years, including narcotics trafficking, 11 murder conspiracies, 86 counts of rackeetering and more.
The United States government had revealed its
drug kingpin law, which allows the prosecution to ask for the death penalty in major drug cases, right when Heatley was charged. The Preacher ended up being the first person hit with the new law.
He
pled guilty to racketeering and murder conspiracy concerning 13 drug-related homicides in February 1999. In exchange for his plea, Heatley avoided the death penalty but received a life sentence.
If 50 gets this new show off the ground, it will be the latest addition to his sprawling TV empire that already includes the
Power series,
BMF and more. In September, the Queens rap legend revealed his
TV deal with STARZ had been completed and that he has over 25 shows in development.
“No one from music culture has had success in Television production,” 50 wrote in an Instagram post. “I have 25 shows now and I’ve made some big deals away from TV.”
