Boots Riley, who’s a filmmaker and the frontman of rap group The Coup, made his directorial film debut with the dark comedy Sorry To Bother You in 2018. The movie starred Lakeith Stanfield, Danny Glover, Terry Crews and Tessa Thompson and garnered exceptional reviews from not only numerous critics but also his peers.

Jordan Peele said on Twitter in 2018 that Boots Riley is an amazing director who has his own curated style of filmmaking.

“#SorryToBotherYou @BootsRiley is being compared to many great directors, but the truth is he’s a one-of-a-kind unique voice,” Peele tweeted. “Fun, brilliant and totally different than anything ever.”
