Brandy accuses Wanya Morris of deliberately pursuing her at 16, manipulating her admiration, and using her for sex.
Brandy just dropped the truth about one of the most controversial relationships in ’90s music, and it’s way darker than anyone realized.
In her new memoir Phases, the R&B icon reveals that Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men pursued her when she was just 16 years old while he was 22, and she’s not holding back about how he manipulated her.
According to the book, Morris positioned himself as her mentor and confidant when she was 15, then escalated things after she joined the group on tour the following year.
Brandy writes that Morris called himself her “boyfriend” behind closed doors but refused to acknowledge the relationship publicly, creating a secret dynamic that made her feel special while keeping everything hidden from her family.
She describes how he “weaponized” her admiration for his talent, transforming her respect into dependence and her friendship into something she couldn’t control.
The situation intensified after they filmed a music video together, and what started as unspoken tension became a full relationship that Brandy now characterizes as calculated and predatory.
When it came to sex, Brandy writes that the experience had nothing to do with her needs or desires.
She says Morris was “getting what he wanted from someone too young to recognize she was being used,” and that she believed he saw her as “conquerable” rather than special.
Though she’d wanted to wait until marriage, she convinced herself that sleeping with him would prove her maturity and cement their bond, but she now recognizes she felt pressured into it despite telling herself it was her choice.
According to TMZ, the pair planned to go public once she turned 18, but that never happened after she caught Morris with his assistant and he admitted to sleeping with multiple women.
Brandy’s account directly contradicts Morris’s public statements from 2021, when he claimed on Instagram Live that they didn’t date until she was “of age” and that her parents were involved in the relationship.
“We did the thing when she was 16, 17. …She was old enough to get it, we didn’t do it in the states that it was illegal in” he said during an interview with The Breakfast Club in 2017.
She’s now calling out what she sees as his continued attempts to rewrite history, saying his refusal to take responsibility for the power dynamic feels like “its own form of continued abuse.”
Her sophomore album Never Say Never was actually about this relationship and her struggle to recognize her own worth during that time.
The revelation has people fuming on social media and could seriously harm Boyz II Men’s legacy.

Brandy was a minor. People gotta stop victim blaming. Wanya was a grown man he knew what he was doing. Second of all if her parents knew like he is saying they do bare some responsibility cause why would you both let a grown man with that kind of attentions around your daughter?
