Gangsta Boo & Lil Keed Fans Slam Grammys Over 'In Memoriam' Snubs

Gangsta Boo and Lil Keed were left out of the “In Memoriam” tribute at the 65th annual Grammy Awards, and their fans are not happy about it.

Every year the Recording Academy holds a special segment for the artists and other music figures who passed away within the year, and for 2022, which was held at the Crypto.com arena on Sunday (February 5), the list featured Takeoff, PnB Rock and more.

However, fans of Gangsta Boo and Lil Keed saw they weren’t included in the montage, and they proceeded to take their frustrations to social media by dragging the Recording Academy.

“Hold the fuck up cause they ain’t show gangsta boo tonight,” one person tweeted while another wrote: “Leaving out Gangsta Boo, one of the pioneers of Southern female rap, from the GRAMMY memoriam segment is a sin and a shame.”

Another tweeted alongside a picture of Boo: “Just because the Grammys forgot you doesn’t mean we will. Long live Gangsta Boo.”

As for Keed, one fan said: “did they forget lil keed in the grammy tributes??” Someone also tweeted: “Grammy’s really didn’t honor Lil Keed. Scum.”

Gangsta Boo passed away on January 1 at the age of 43 and Lil Keed died on May 13, 2022. Fans also pointed out how the Atlanta rapper Trouble, who died on June 5, 2022, and executive Jonathan “Hovain” Hylton, who died in November 2022, were also not included.

The other Hip Hop acts who were honored during the segment include Coolio, DJ Kay Slay and Hurricane G. One of the most touching tributes came from Quavo, who honored TakeOff by performing “Without You” with the late rapper’s chain hanging from a microphone stand on stage.

The Recording Academy has also been criticized for Beyoncé losing Album of the Year to Harry Styles’ Harry’s House. The Queen is now 0-for-4 in the Album of the Year category and fans were upset over the snub.

“There is something infuriatingly racist about the vast majority of Beyoncé’s #grammys being in R&B categories while having 4 nominations for AOTY and winning 0 times. ZERO. Meanwhile, artists like Taylor Swift has THREE under her belt. Good night,” someone tweeted.

Beyoncé did officially become the most-awarded artist in the history of the Grammy Awards, picking up her 29th through 32nd wins on Sunday night.

After missing her first three awards of the night — two of which were presented before the televised portion of the 65th Grammy Awards on Sunday night (February 5) — the singer took the stage to accept the trophy for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Renaissance.

Beyoncé took home three additional awards for songs from Renaissance in the Best R&B Song, Best Traditional R&B Performance, and Best Dance/Electronic Recording categories.
