Keri Hilson hasn’t released a full body of work since 2010’s No Boys Allowed – but according to the singer/songwriter, that may finally be changing this year.
Hilson appeared on the Behind the Mask podcast on Wednesday (February 1), and among talks about her film career, performing on the Millennium Tour and more, she revealed that fans just might be getting her long-awaited third studio album soon.
“I can say that [the new album] answers questions,” Hilson said. “I can say that I’m proud of it. And I can say that there were a couple of false starts. They were not all me! There was some like I don’t know fake PR or like fans would craft fake press releases and tweets.
“But there have been false starts and right before my dad died, that was definitely one that I was responsible for because that’s what I was planning to do and then that happened,” she continued. “But I feel like I’m closer now.”
While she didn’t give an exact release date, the “Pretty Girl Rock” singer said she strongly believes “this is the year” the project will drop.
“Lately, I’ve been wondering if I want to go back in and record some more,” she added. “I’ve been considering whether or not I want to freshen and liven it up a little bit. I’ve been inspired to write…”
No Boys Allowed was executive produced by Timbaland and Polow da Don, with features from the likes of Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Kanye West, J. Cole, Nelly and Timbaland himself. The project debuted and peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 with 102,000 copies sold in its first week.
In the years since, Keri Hilson has appeared in numerous films, including 2012’s popular Think Like a Man adaptation with Regina Hall, Kevin Hart and Gabrielle Union.
She also spent some of her time reading COVID-19 conspiracy theories, as she came under fire in 2020 for blaming the worldwide pandemic on 5G radiation.
In a series of since-deleted tweets, the singer highlighted how the virus appeared shortly after the launch of 5G in China last November, warning her fans to disable the wireless technology.
“People have been trying to warn us about 5G for YEARS,” she wrote. “Petitions, organizations, studies…what we’re going thru is the affects of radiation. 5G launched in CHINA. Nov 1, 2019. People dropped dead. See attached & go to my IG stories for more. TURN OFF 5G by disabling LTE!!!”
Keri added how personal research and YouTube videos helped her arrive at her coronavirus conspiracy theory.
“I also hv a friend who’s been showing me youtubes over the past year on the physical/human affects of 4 & 5G,” she wrote. “Researched for myself today re: COVID19…connections were quite peculiar. And after all I’ve read, believable.”
“And to be clear, I’m saying there have been lots of studies & experiments that point to the possibility that the dangerous levels of of electromagnetic radiation (5G) could be CAUSING the contagious virus.”
She later removed the posts, noting it was at her management team’s request.
“Management has asked me to delete vid/articles,” she wrote. “I appreciate good discourse on unconventional thinking. Let’s all just be safe out there, cuz whatever the cause the virus a real thing. May God be with us…prayers to alllllll.”
