Kevin Gates has revealed that he felt negative energy in the air the day that Kobe Bryant died, especially when he lived close to the crash site.
During his visit to Big Boy’s Neighborhood last week, Gates detailed what was happening that day in his home when Kobe, along with several other people, including his daughter Gigi, was killed in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
According to Gates, there was a lot of negative energy in the air that he could sense, and it only amplified when his “nana” came into the house explaining that Kobe had died. On his 2020 song “Wetty,” the 37-year-old revealed the crash site was seven minutes from his home and explained that to Big Boy.
“My nana came in. I told my tattoo artist- remember I told you? I said, ‘Man, I don’t feel like we should leave the house today. We just need to stay in today,'” Gates said. “She came right to the house. I hate to even say this, but that’s what happened. She came in the house and was like, ‘They say Kobe just had a helicopter crash.’ That shit happened seven minutes from my house. Like, weird shit like that always be happening to me.”
The five-time NBA champion was killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on January 26. The Hip Hop community shared numerous tributes and messages about the NBA legend, including Lil Wayne, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Chuck D, A$AP Rocky, Ice-T and more.
In another portion of his interview with Big Boy, Kevin Gates revealed he went nearly a month without food or water by choice in a dry fast.
“Dry fasting is when you don’t eat or drink,” he explained with Big Boy asking how long he would partake in the practice. “It depends. The longest I ever done did was close to a month — three weeks. No food, no water.”
Akademiks reposted the Baton Rouge rapper’s fasting habits and his followers had plenty to say while questioning Gates’ ridiculousness. “This guy is an enemy of regular conversations,” one person wrote while another added: “This the same dude that said he started a car battery with his hands btw.”
