Lil Tjay has been arrested and charged with weapon possession.
According to a report from TMZ, the incident occurred on Monday (January 16) when the “Calling My Phone” rapper was pulled over for a traffic stop while en route to shoot a video with Ice Spice.
Little other details are available in the developing story, but officers reportedly found a handgun in Tjay’s vehicle and then arrested him.
You can view video of the arrest below.
The news arrives just months after Tjay returned to the stage following a full recovery from being shot during an attempted robbery in New Jersey last summer.
The Bronx native was hospitalized in June after he was shot seven times while sitting in his car outside a Chipotle in Edgewater. The 21-year-old was rushed into emergency surgery, where he was reported to have been unconscious and breathing through a tube for a few days.
Tjay was able to make a full recovery, and took to social media in August to say that while things were “tough,” he would come back and be “stronger than ever.”
“Hey what’s going on y’all?” Tjay said in a video while wearing a neck brace. “I’m just checking in with y’all. I just wanna say, thanks for the love, thanks for the support. I’ve been looking at the DM’s, seeing the comments and everything else and I feel love.”
Tjay continued: “Seven shots it was tough you know, most people don’t survive it but I’m here. Here for a reason and new music coming soon, we’re gonna come back stronger than ever. Love y’all.”
Two days later, he dropped his comeback single “Beat The Odds,” where he thanks his fans for their continued love and support. He also dropped off a remix to 50 Cent’s “Many Men” titled “FACESHOT,” addressing the near-fatal shooting and issuing a warning to the triggerman.
In September, he returned to the stage at Rolling Loud New York with a 13-song set.
Tjay is currently being taken to an NYPD station to be booked. More details will be reported once available.
