Lil Wayne ditches his Bangor concert Tuesday night, leaving thousands of fans empty-handed before announcing a July 28 makeup show.
Lil Wayne left thousands of Maine fans standing in the dark Tuesday night when he never showed up to the Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor.
The Grammy-winning rapper was supposed to headline the opening show of his “20 Years of Carter Classics” tour, but by 11 P.M., venue staff was telling the crowd the headliner wasn’t coming.
Now the rapper has apologized and is telling fans to be patient.
Lil Wayne posted to his Facebook and Instagram stories announcing the rescheduled date.
“My Maine fans, I’m so sorry,” he wrote. “Please hold on to your tickets, they will be honored for the rescheduled date. More information will be emailed directly to ticket holders. I ain’t without you. I can’t wait to come back and give you the show you deserve.”
The new date is July 28, giving the rapper nearly a month to sort out whatever caused the initial no-show.
Lil Wayne’s recent tour history shows he’s generally reliable, making this incident stand out as unusual for the veteran performer.
According to WMTW, the night of the event, Waterfront Concerts President Alex Gray took the stage to apologize, telling the audience this had never happened in the venue’s 251-show history.
The venue had even requested a curfew extension from the city and exhausted every option to make the performance happen, but nothing worked.
2 Chainz, who was billed as the opening act, actually delivered his set as scheduled.
After he finished, a DJ kept the crowd entertained for hours while everyone waited for the main event that never materialized.
The tour continues with back-to-back shows in New York and New Hampshire this week, with reports suggesting those venues are monitoring the situation closely.
The Maine Savings Amphitheater is already moving forward with other events, hosting Godsmack and Stone Temple Pilots on Friday night with special guest Dorothy.
