Metro Boomin Pens Heartfelt Message On Late Mother's Birthday: 'The Love Of My Life'
December 07, 2000
Metro Boomin has continued to mourn the loss of his mother, paying tribute to her with a heartfelt message on what would have been her birthday.
Leslie Wayne was shot and killed by her husband — who was not Metro’s father — on June 3 outside Atlanta in a murder-suicide after he turned the gun on himself.
“Happy Birthday my Queen, my mentor, my best friend, my biggest supporter, my motivation, my real twin, my hero, the Love of my life, my Mother,” Metro wrote. “You taught me what unconditional love truly means and I carry that with me to this day and everyday forever after that.”
“I will continue to do everything in your name and shine light throughout this dark world further building the legacy that You started and achieved so much in. God made You so strong to make me so strong and I see the bigger picture now. I Love You always and forever and can’t wait to see You again.”
Metro accompanied his caption with a carousel of photos of him and his mother throughout the years, including a somewhat recent one of him kissing and hugging her.
A number of the producer’s rap peers sent their love and support in the comments section, including Busta Rhymes, Swizz Beatz, G Herbo, Tay Keith, NAV, Southside and more. “blessings to you family. You stay strong,” wrote Project Pat.
Metro’s touching post comes shortly after he
unveiled a chain dedicated to his late mother. The iced-out piece, which he was first seen wearing at the release party for his
Heroes & Villains album in Los Angeles earlier this month, contains a photo of his mom inside the pendant.
His aforementioned project arrived to rave reviews following its release on December 2, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 185,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.
Additionally, all 15 of the album’s songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100, including two in the top 10: “Creepin” featuring The Weeknd (No. 5) and the Future and Chris Brown-assisted “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” (No. 8).
Despite the success of his latest studio release, Metro recently
admitted that it’s a “bittersweet” moment without his mother to be around to see it.
“Mom I miss you so much I can’t do nothing but sit here and cry right now,” he wrote on Instagram. “You taught me to see the blessings no matter the circumstances and I feel so blessed right now but can’t help to feel hurt because this is the moment we have always talked about and patiently waited and prayed for.
“It hurts not getting your texts about all your favorite songs or how good you think I look in all the videos and pictures. You were always the proudest of all your children and have always been my #1 supporter with everything in life. Even when I was 13 sneaking staying up late on school nights to make beats and then when I would fake sleep you would just act like you didn’t know I was up.”
He added: “I miss your typos I miss you asking for the links to the albums and merch so you could send them out to everyone you know telling me no one could even talk to you without supporting your babies. I miss you checking me and putting me back on track if I ever went too far left.
“I Love You for eternity and can’t wait until I can finally be with you again. I feel so blessed right now but the moment is still so bittersweet #MyQueen #IWishYouWereHere.”
