Massachusetts singer and rapper Sycklone combines introspective lyrics with a uniquely immersive trip-hop sound. The results are an exhilarating tour de force.
Massachusetts rapper Sycklone has shared his latest single, ‘Darkness,’ as he continues to position himself as a promising new artist.
Sycklone, born Nate Jean, hails from Everett, Massachusetts. His career dates to 2012, when he worked as an Audio Engineer at the Everett Boys & Girls Club. This experience – along with his time at Bay State College, where he developed a passion for photography and videography – was formative for Sycklone’s overall artistic outlook. In 2017, now committed to music, he signed a 1-year distribution deal with Bentley Records and released his debut album, Self Made, followed by his sophomore follow-up release, On A Wave.
Since then, Sycklone has dabbled in music and modeling and worked on his latest album, The Green Files, during lockdown.
‘Darkness,’ the latest single from the album, is a brooding, heady mix of futurism, trip-hop influences, and introspective lyrics. A penetrating bass rumbles and skitters in the background of this song as Sycklone’s haunting, soulful voice searches for absolution and redemption as he feels himself “falling into the unknown” where “nobody understand[s] me.” A piano riff drifts through the song, adding a beautiful, emotional weight to Sycklone’s complex lyrics.
As with all of Sycklone’s most recent tracks, ‘Darkness’ packs a haunting punch.
