Smino Honored With His Own Day In St. Louis

Smino‘s fifth annual ‘Kribmas’ show in his hometown of St. Louis ended with the rapper being honored with his own day.

The holiday concert went down on Sunday (December 18) to a packed crowd. At the end of the show, a member of Smino’s team came out on stage to surprise him with a video – and it featured St. Louis mayor Tishaura Jones announcing the news.

“I just want to congratulate Smino on the 5 year anniversary of Kribmas,” Mayor Jones said. “You’re always outreaching the community and being just a wonderfully talented artist. And it’s my pleasure as mayor of the city of St. Louis to declare today, December 18, as Smino Day.”

After signing to Motown Records late last year, Smino had a busy 2022 that included dropping his third LP Luv 4 Rent and teaming up with Pharrell’s ICECREAM brand for a Zero Fatigue capsule collection.

The 15-track Luv 4 Rent arrived in October and featured an eclectic cast of stars including J. Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Doechii, Lucky Daye, Ravyn Lenae, Fatman Scoop, Reggie and Phoelix.

“This whole album, it’s about having fun and recognizing your inner love. Straight up self-love vibe,” he said of the LP in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I felt like I wasn’t personally doing that for myself, and I felt like I was just giving that out too much and not really taking it in.

“So I was in that place, I was in the middle of that and I was like, ‘Damn, how I’ma get out of this?’ And the art imitates life, you feel me? And that’s my life. So, shit, that’s what I ended up making it about. Low key, this album probably just saved my life a little bit.”

He’ll take the project on the road in 2023 on the Luv Is 4Ever Tour alongside co-headliner J.I.D. Tickets for the 32-date trek are available now here. General admission is going for about $65.
