Snoop Dogg has revealed that he used to write his lyrics on a typewriter and said he could type at about 65 words a minute.
In a sit-down with The 85 South Comedy Show, the West Coast legend explained that during the early days of his career he would borrow a typewriter from 2Scoops of the esteemed G-funk group The Dove Shack.
“Them the little homies,” Snoop said of the trio at the 43-minute mark. “2Scoops that was in the group, when I first started writing raps I used to use that n-gga typewriter… I was writing on paper cuz and I would lose my shit and this n-gga typewriter was organized. This n-gga had paper organized and shit so I was like, ‘I’m just gonna type my shit up’ and I used to type like 65 words a minute, n-gga.”
He continued: “It was a skill I took up at a little white junior high school I went to. They gave a n-gga typing classes and I took it. I was one of them students that I took a wood class, a metal class, I took typing, I took home economics. I took classes that was like different.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Snoop Dogg reflected on how the late 2Pac taught him how to become a “star,” crediting the late rapper for establishing his “Pimp” image.
“I’m still dressing like a n-gga from the hood — khakis, Chucks,” Snoop said of his post-Doggystyle wardrobe. “That n-gga like, ‘Me and you finna have a meeting… We stepping our game up. We gotta change your look, Snoop Dogg. You a pimp, n-gga. Bitches love you. You fly. You gotta start showing your fly side!”
Snoop Dogg added that at first, he was uneasy about wearing such lavish and form-fitting clothes, but admitted he eventually grew into the role with the help of ‘Pac.
“He dressed me up in suits, Louis Vuitton, Gucci — shit I couldn’t even spell or pronounce! All this Italian shit,” Snoop continued. “Just look at how I’m standing next to cuh when I’m wearing it. I’m trying to figure it out! I’m like, ‘Do I look right? I hope I don’t look sweet ’cause these pants tight as a muthafucka!’”
Snoop Dogg recently joined forces with Too $hort, E-40 and Ice Cube to form the super group Mount Westmore. Their debut LP Snoop, Cube, 40, $hort LP was released on Friday (December 9).
