TakeOff: ABC Mistakes Migos Rapper For Quavo In Year-End Tribute

TakeOff was honored as part of ABC’s year-end 2022 special but the network botched its “In Memorium” segment by mixing him up with his uncle and fellow Migos rapper Quavo.

Hosted by Robin Roberts, Monday’s (December 26) program segment honored those from the entertainment industry who passed away in 2022.

When TakeOff was listed as a rapper from the Migos, ABC egregiously posted a photo of Huncho instead, which angered fans across social media.

“So I’m watching #TheYear on @abc and was caught off guard by the disrespect and ignorance of the programming. All black people don’t look the same and y’all got this one wrong, the person is the picture is clearly, clearly @Quavonyrn do better,” one person wrote.

In the hours following the outrage, ABC News realized its grave mistake and issued an apology for the “unfortunate error” and has corrected an updated version of the “In Memorium” segment.

“We apologize for the unfortunate error in a previous version of ‘The Year: 2022.’ It has been corrected,” ABC News Studios wrote.

TakeOff was shot and killed outside 810 Billiards and Bowling Alley in Houston on November 1 after an argument following a heated dice game. The 28-year-old’s murder has spawned a pair of arrests.

A Harris County Medical Examiner said in TakeOff’s autopsy report that the Migos member died of “penetrating gunshot wounds of head and torso into arm.”

The alleged triggerman, Patrick Clark, was arrested and charged with TakeOff’s murder and he remains behind bars after having his second bond reduction request denied during Tuesday’s (December 27) hearing.

Clark’s bond will stay at $1 million after hoping it would be cut to $300,000. His bail was originally filed at $2 million before being lowered earlier this month.

The first arrest in TakeOff’s shooting was made last month when 16-year-old rapper Lil Cam (real name Cameron Joshua) was taken into custody in Houston on November 22 and charged with felony unlawful carry of a weapon.
